Region II Services supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by strengthening access to services, building trusted partnerships, and helping create welcoming communities. We believe every person deserves dignity, respect, and the freedom to live a meaningful life.
Region II Services includes three service-driven agencies—Southwest Area Training Services (McCook), South Central Developmental Services (Cozad), and North Platte Opportunity Center (North Platte and Ogallala). We support people in pursuing their goals, honoring their choices, and building independence—helping each person create a meaningful life within their community.
Region II Services was formed in 1971 to provide coordinated, high-quality services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Southwest Nebraska. Since its founding, Region II has proudly served 17 counties: Arthur, Chase, Dawson, Dundy, Frontier, Gosper, Grant, Hayes, Hitchcock, Hooker, Keith, Lincoln, Logan, McPherson, Perkins, Red Willow, and Thomas. While our primary service area includes these counties, we also provide resources and support to individuals residing outside of the Region when needed.
The foundation of Region II began with strong community advocacy. The North Platte Opportunity Center, originally organized by parents in 1955, became part of Region II in June 1970 and was the first local agency established within the Region. This was followed by Southwest Area Training Services in McCook in 1970 and South Central Developmental Services in Cozad in 1972. These agencies helped shape the collaborative network that continues to serve individuals and families today.
Region II Services is governed by the Region II Governing Board, composed of County Commissioners representing each of the 17 counties. Today, approximately 220 dedicated staff members across our agencies and the Region II office support 162 individuals in services, working every day to promote independence, dignity, and inclusion within welcoming communities.
